About the Sana Device

What is the Sana device?
The Sana device is a non-drug treatment for adjunctive therapy for temporary relief of neuropathic pain. You wear it like a sleep mask with headphones and it runs a 16-minute session automatically.
How does it work?
The device delivers gentle, precisely timed light and sound pulses that are proposed to engage your brain's natural pain-processing pathways. Over time, this may help reduce the intensity of neuropathic pain. It's completely non-invasive — you simply sit comfortably and let the session run.
Is this a drug? Will it interact with my medications?
No. The Sana device is not a drug and has zero drug interactions. It uses light and sound — not any chemical or substance. It can be used alongside your existing medications and treatments.
Is the Sana device approved by the FDA?
On January 16, 2026, the FDA granted Sana Health's De Novo application for the Sana Device, making it the first FDA allowed audio-visual stimulator for neuropathic pain relief.

Using the Device

How should I prepare for my first session?
Find a comfortable, quiet, and dark spot where you can lie back. Disconnect the device from the charger, adjust the fit until it sits comfortably, and put in your headphones. Slide the power button to on — the session will begin automatically within a few seconds. From there, you can adjust the brightness and volume to your preference. Be sure to drink water before and after your session.
How long is each session?
Each session is 16 minutes. Once you turn the device on, the session runs automatically. You don't need to do anything during the session — just sit comfortably with your eyes closed and relax.
How often should I use the device?
The recommended protocol is one to two sessions per day. Consistent daily use gives the best results.
What do I need to do to start a session?
  • Find a comfortable seat in a quiet, low-distraction environment
  • Ensure the device is fully charged and disconnected from the charger
  • Put on the Sana device and close your eyes
  • Initiate the session on the device
  • Sit back and let the 16-minute session run automatically
Do I keep my eyes open or closed during a session?
Your eyes should remain closed throughout the entire session. The device delivers synchronized light and sound through the lenses and speakers while your eyes are closed.
How do I adjust the volume and brightness?
The device has two sets of buttons located along the top. To adjust the volume, reach up with your left hand — the button closest to your nose increases the volume, and the button toward your ear decreases it. To adjust brightness, reach up with your right hand and use the corresponding buttons in the same way. Both can be adjusted at any time during a session to find a comfortable level.
Can I use Bluetooth headphones with the device?
No. The Sana device does not support Bluetooth headphone connectivity at this time. Audio is delivered through wired headphones. You may use your own if they connect via the standard audio jack.
How do I charge the device?
Plug the provided micro-USB connector into the port on the bottom of the Sana device, then plug it into any standard electrical outlet. The lenses will illuminate blue while charging. When fully charged, the blue lights will turn off. Always ensure the device is charged and disconnected from the charger before starting a session.
How do I clean the device?
You can use an antibacterial wipe (such as a Clorox wipe) to wipe down the entire outside of the Sana device. For the foam mask:
  • Remove the foam mask from the device
  • Handwash in mild detergent
  • Allow it to fully dry before re-fitting
  • Do not machine wash or wring
  • Do not re-fit to the device until completely dry
Keep the Sana device dry at all times.

What to Expect

How quickly will I notice results?
Results vary by individual. Some patients notice improvement within the first few weeks of daily use. As with many pain treatments, consistent use over time typically produces the best outcomes.
What does the session feel like?
Sessions are generally described as calm and relaxing. You will see gentle, synchronized light patterns and hear corresponding tones through the device. The experience is designed to be comfortable and non-disruptive.
What if I fall asleep during a session?
The session will complete automatically. If you fall asleep, the device will still run its full 16 minutes.
Can I stop a session early if I need to?
Yes. You can stop a session at any time. You can resume or start a new session when you're ready.
